Day trip up to Milford Sound
Beautiful morning at MIlford Sound
It was a pretty foggy morning, so this was one of our few glimpses of the peaks
Brenden’s ready for the cruise
Out there is the Tasman Sea
Heading back
Up close with the water fall
After our cruise we went for a short walk to find a nice place to eat our lunch
On the drive back we stopped at The Chasm — Here it looks like just a normal stream…
…but then it shoots down this chasm. Very hard to photograph. Sorry.
Holy tour bus!
A couple “pull over, pull over!” shots.
We only went to the Viewing Gantry
First we crossed a suspension bridge…
…and then we viewed from the Gantry
Back at the holiday park in Te Anau we enjoyed some views
And Brenden enjoyed this pedal car

Road Trip Journal – March 5, 2015 (Te Anau)

  • Lazy morning.
  • D- short run along road & side dirt rods
  • Drove to find LoR movie settings, but no success. Went to Kepler Track Trail head at Rainbow Reach with suspension bridge over Waiau River (Anduin River in LoR).
  • Had lunch at the visitor center park and fed the ducks.
  • Back at camp, boys played w/ girls next door.
A view from my morning trail run
Lake Te Anau
We went on an expedition to find some some LoR film settings…
…but we were largely unsuccessful
Ex Wagon waited patiently for us
The Kepler track is one of the popular “Great Walks.” We only poked around the trail head at Rainbow Reach.
It included another suspension bridge, and the boys amused themselves by throwing things from it
We had lunch in a park in Te Anau.
Brenden and his duck minions. (Notice the family in the background. They had two little boys in diapers. Brought back memories.
Another random side of the road shot. Llamas or Alpacas?
These two had a spitting war
